The Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS) named John Wilson of Ohio Hi-Point Career Center in Springfield, OH as the winner of an all expenses paid trip to the SEMA Show awarded by the association during the recent SkillsUSA national competition, held in Kansas City June 23-27.

To demonstrate support for not only the student competitors, but also to the schools and advisors, SCRS provided the headlining prize at the 100% Advisor Reception on June 24.

Donated by SCRS and the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA), the award included an all expenses paid trip for both the advisor and a student guest of their choice to attend the SEMA Show; including two airline tickets, two hotel rooms, two passes into the SEMA Show this fall, and two passes to the SCRS Repairer Driven Education series.

“SkillsUSA and career and technical education are about providing students with professional experiences,” said Tim Lawrence, executive director of SkillsUSA. “This prize of a trip to the 2012 SEMA Show and SCRS Repairer Driven Education Program is an outstanding example of that kind of experience for both a student and an instructor. It’s also a motivator to have more students think of a career in collision repair. That’s good for the industry and the students. It just doesn’t get much better than this,” Lawrence concluded.

In addition to the SEMA trip prize, all student competitors and sponsoring schools will be receiving a complimentary one year membership to SCRS so that they can remain connected to the ongoing activities within the industry. The student competitors also were provided with t-shirts donated by SCRS and sponsored by PPG Automotive Refinish.
